When Forbes met Greg Lambrecht

When Forbes met Greg Lambrecht

Greg Lambrecht, the biomedical engineer who transformed wine culture, sat down with Forbes to share his journey and the innovation behind Coravin. From designing chemotherapy needles to creating the ultimate wine-by-the-glass system, Lambrecht’s passion for problem-solving and wine has changed the way the world enjoys its favorite bottles.

“I got really good at needles in 1993...I remember being frustrated with how wine had to be consumed—why is 750ml the perfect volume for any moment? I wanted to learn about wine faster, but there were bottles I wasn’t opening because they were too special.”

That frustration sparked an idea: a system that would let him pour a glass while saving the rest.

Eleven years of development followed, blending his engineering expertise with a passion for wine.

“The needle goes through the cork, argon gas replaces the wine, and the bottle stays fresh.”

His dedication led to the launch of Coravin in 2011, enabling wine lovers and sommeliers alike to explore a world of wines, one glass at a time.

In 2021, Lambrecht filled a key gap with the Coravin Sparkling by-the-glass System, which preserves the fizz and flavor of Champagne and sparkling wines for weeks.

“We worked for eight years blind-tasting different styles and formats...Sommeliers now restore the perlage of very old Champagne—it’s like it never left the cave.”

From pairing rosé Champagne with pizza to rejuvenating a vintage Ruinart, Coravin empowers you to drink what you want, when you want—without compromise.
